Clock Emporium has been repairing and restoring clocks and watches for decades. Our expert repair personnel can take our antique clock and make the movement work like it was brand new. We have the facilities to do the necessary 5-7 year ultrasonic tuneups, too.
Is your clock at least 5 years old? When was the last time you had it tuned up? If your answer is more than 5 years or never, you need to have it go through an ultrasonic bath immediately so that the movement doesn't get damaged. Oil and dirt will build between the gears. Adding oil will not make it work better -- it might only delay the repair and/or damage the movement. The movement needs to be taken apart and tested for wear-and-tear. The bushings might be loose. The clock might be out of alignment or out of beat. The chime rods might be bent. The strikers could be worn down. The gears could have burrs. There are many things which can happen to a movement which are not seen by the naked eye.
If your clock or watch is running sluggish. If you can't get the time to adjust no matter what you try. If your bell chimes are a "thud" instead of a "ding-dong" or "ting" there is something wrong. It might be that it only needs a cleaning. But, like your car, a tune-up is needed to keep your timepiece running accurately. It's the legacy you will be leaving to the generations to come. Be proud of the heritage you have established and take good care of your clock.
NOTE: Quartz clocks do not need ultrasonic cleaning. Quartz movements are only meant to run for about 5 to 10 years before they break down. Replacing those movements are not expensive but if the manufacturer stopped making movements for your clock, you are out of luck. Your quartz clock was not built to last long. We can help you with your quartz clock in many cases, however. The only quartz clocks which are not worth the repair are the quartz anniversary clocks. It is cheaper to replace the entire anniversary clock rather than try to put a new movement in the clock. We would be glad to discuss this with you when you write.
Prices for repair depend upon the clock or watch. We do have a basic price for mechanical clocks depending upon whether you have a wall clock, mantle clock or grandfather clock. Please give us the brand of the clock (if you know it) and the age (approximate) of the clock. Tell us when it was last serviced (if you know). We can't give you a price for parts because we can't determine the exact damage to these parts until it has been cleaned. But we can give you the basic ultrasonic cleaning charge. Here are our basic charges:Mantle Clocks
American Mantle Clocks: $250.00 plus parts European Mantle Clocks: $300.00 plus parts Complex Mantle Clocks: $400.00 plus partsWall Clocks Wall Clocks - Bim Bam: $350.00 plus parts Wall Clocks - 4/4 Movements: $400.00 plus partsGrandfather/Grandmother Clocks

If the part we replace is bad, we warranty all parts we replace for ONE YEAR. You must send your mantle or wall clock to us (keep your key because we do have keys here.) For a grandfather or grandmother clock, you must remove the movement and send us the movement, pendulum and weights (keep your key). Please insure your clock for it's full value when shipping. Prices for cleaning clocks are high due to the fact that we take all the movements apart and look at each part very carefully. We put them in an ultrasonic chemical bath and fully strip the part of dirt, old oil and foreign objects before checking them under a magnifying glass for defects. We put your movement back together and oil them with a special clock oil fit only for your clock. (never oil your clock at home or you will ruin your clock forever) We test your clock and make sure that it is running perfectly before returning the clock or movement to you.
Shipping charges on clock repair is approximately 10% of the total of your bill (depending upon the weight of your clock or movement plus the size of the package -- plus insurance to you home). We require payment of the repair before we will fix your clock. Any additional charges for parts or shipping will be due before your clock will be shipped back to you.
